Wordsmith Communication, based in Solihull in the West Midlands, is a small strategic communications and PR consultancy supporting a range of growing organisations with their PR and communications needs, providing them with the valuable and flexible resource of an experienced marketing and communications professional on their team, without them having to bear the full time costs of employing one.

The business was established in 2009 to provide leaders of all different kinds of organisations with a focused, intelligent approach to managing one of their most important, yet also most vulnerable, assets: their reputation.

Deborah Smith – Managing Director

DETS Prior to setting up Wordsmith Communication six years ago, Deborah thoroughly enjoyed a seventeen-year career in corporate and public affairs, starting at BAA plc and culminating in a position on the Board of The NEC Group, Birmingham as Marketing and Communications Director. She was also a board member of Tourism West Midlands. During this time, as well as shaping the reputation of some well-known UK brands, she also advised a number of high profile leaders on their personal reputations and profiles.

Deborah’s exemplary campaign management, crisis management, brand building and writing skills are second to none.

With a reputation as “a genuine wordsmith and seasoned communicator,” Deborah is a great all-rounder – a confident and experienced pair of hands to support growing businesses. She is at home writing and selling in press releases, creating compelling marketing collateral or web content, managing social media campaigns or writing and editing print publications. Deborah is also an experienced media spokeswoman and strategist, with significant experience of handling media and public interest during high profile incidents and events.

Nick Britten – Associate

Picture1Nick has enjoyed a highly successful career in journalism, media and PR. As well as a 22-year career in the national print media, working on titles from Daily Record to the Daily Telegraph, he is also an experienced commentator and public relations practitioner.

His broadcast appearances include Newsnight, Sky News, BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Derby.

During his time in the media he has covered the biggest national stories of our time, from the Dunblane massacre to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann and, more recently, the murder of two policewomen in Manchester and jailing of television presenter Stuart Hall. He has also worked abroad covering Olympic Games and charity work in Africa to alleviate poverty.

Not forgetting his real pride and joy – a regular column in the Derby County FC programme for the last 13 years – he also comperes events and dinners and is instrumental in training firm Another Voice’s media and presentation training programmes.
